Directions:

At the Poet's Corner roundabout on the A4 take the Wellsway out of Bath(A367) and after the big bend at Bear Flat (opposite the Bear pub) turn left into Shakespeare Avenue. Proceed to the top of the hill (careful of the junction halfway up the hill) and turn right in front of the entrance to Alexander Park. The entrance to Beechen Clifff School is in front of you. Come in the main entrance of the school, students will have registration in the main hall.

Drama - Jody Owen

Whilst devising and performing in London Venues with Shared Experience, Jody graduated from The Patricia Hammond School of Theatre and qualified at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts to teach Acting, as well as Speech and Verse.

His teaching career began at two theatre schools, The Debbie Fyfe School of Theatre and The Amelia Appleby School of Performing Arts. At both, he directed, devised and wrote several shows for public performance. Jody then studied at Bristol University and graduated with a degree in Drama.

Over the last two years, he has been working with Paper Aeroplane Theatre Company devising fresh, new, dynamic work. Recent shows, Love in Idleness and The Grill Chef have been met with critical acclaim and have been performed at theatres nationwide, including The Bristol Old Vic, The Barbican and The Edinburgh Festival.

In addition Jody currently works as an editor and cameraman for the BBC where he also assists with broadcast journalism training.

Drama - Tristan Carter

After spending many years working in the world of banking and treading the boards at the Bristol Hippodrome and The Theatre Royal Bath with local amateur companies, Tristan completed a diploma at The Guildford School of Acting and became a professional actor and a teacher of drama.

Over the years he has performed at many West End Venues including The London Palladium, The Theatre Royal Drury Lane, The Savoy Theatre and The Royal Albert Hall. He toured the country with Shakespeare4Kidz and understudied Jason Connery in the 2003 tour of The Blue Room with Tracey Shaw.

He has also performed all over the country in many other theatre productions, concerts and galas. Alongside his acting career Tristan taught drama for five years at various private theatre schools and secondary schools before becoming the co-founder of Curtain Up.

He is currently studying for a degree in performing arts and a teaching certificate with the London Academy of Music and Drama.

Dance - Laura Scott

Laura is currently in her third year of the Performing Arts degree at Bath Spa University.

She thoroughly enjoys teaching, having used her gap year to gain experience of teaching dance for various schools including a fun packed experience at Camp America! As well as teaching, Laura loves to perform; she recently took a role with Bath Light Operatic Group in their production of 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal in Bath.

She hopes to go on to further her training with an MA.

Dance - Annette Purshouse

Annette is originally from Glasgow and began Ballet when she was five, mainly because she liked the pink leotards!

She moved to Guildford to complete a Dance Degree BA (Hons) at the University of Surrey and alongside this took teaching qualifications with International Dance Teacher's Association in Freestyle, Modern Jazz, Cheerleading and Tap.

She also has Qualified Teacher Status in Dance from the University of Exeter and currently teaches Dance and Music at a Wiltshire secondary school. She regularly performs and choreographs as well as teaching, and recently performed in 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal Bath.

Singing - Liz Hunt

As well as working with us at Curtain Up, Liz Hunt teaches piano and voice from her home in central Bath. An accomplished pianist, Liz studied music and performing arts in her native South Wales, before moving to Bath to study piano and voice at Bath Spa University.

A regular participant at concerts and reviews in and around Bath, and she sings with several highly regarded choral, opera, and musical societies. Liz recently played a role in Bath Opera’s production of La Vie Parisienne at St Michael’s church in central Bath.

Singing - Francis Faux

At the age of 7 Francis was awarded a scholarship to Westminster Cathedral Choir School and went on to be awarded a top music scholarship to Eton College where later he recorded with the King's Consort and was fortunate to work alongside Susan Digby, a judge on BBC1's Last Choir Standing, for Yehudi Menuhin's 80th birthday celebration at the Royal Albert Hall.

Francis spent two years studying Music at Durham University and finished his degree at Bath Spa University where he broadened his skills in composition, conducting and performance. During his time here, he assumed the role of Musical Director on several occasions in productions of Into the Woods, Dido and Aeneas, A Threepenny Opera, and The Medium.  He graduated in 2007 with a First Class degree and a year later completed his PGCE in Secondary Music.

The Principal - Sarah Carter

Sarah co-founded Curtain Up in January 2004, She originally trained at bath University as a pharmacist graduating with a 1st Class Honours degree, and later spent many years as Deputy Chief Pharmacist at a private hospital in Guildford, specialising in oncology.

Her career as a pharmacist involved training and teaching fellow colleagues, junior staff and doctors in hospitals and teaching pharmacy students at Bath University, the principles of which can all be applied to organising and running a theatre school! Over the last year, Sarah, alongside Tristan, has successfully created Curtain Up drama schools in Bath, Chew Magna, Melksham and Radstock and ensured over 65 students passed their Trinity examinations with exceptional results.
